3 July 2015: Vajpayee admitted 'mistake' in Gujarat: Former RAW chief
In an interview conducted by Karan Thapar and telecast on India Today TV channel on Thursday, Dulat said Vajpayee admitted Gujarat was a mistake. "You could see the sadness in his (Vajpayee's) eyes," he said. "Gujarat mein humse kuch galti ho gayi (We committed some mistake in Gujarat)," Dulat quoted Vajpayee as saying.

When Narendra Modi takes the centre stage for an event involving the corporate sector, it is not surprising that the who's who of India Inc. would be there. On Wednesday, however, even a 15,000-capacity stadium in Delhi seemed trifle small for a venue when the Prime Minister launched the "Digital India Week" to empower citizens with the use of IT.
"I dream of a digital India where high-speed digital highways unite the nation; 1.2 billion connected Indians drive innovation; technology ensures the citizen-government interface is incorruptible," Modi said.

Holding that road infrastructure is key to a nation's development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today directed officials to ensure good connectivity between the new road projects and nearby airports.
He also said that priority should be given to high-quality port connectivity projects and pitched for aggressive tree plantation along all highway projects.
3 July 2015: Modi will suffer for ignoring corruption: CPI-M
Prime Minister Narendra Modi "will have to pay a heavy price in the coming days" for ignoring rising cases of corruption involving BJP leaders, the CPI-M warned on Thursday.
"There should be no surprise at the corruption and the rapidity with which it has surfaced in BJP-led governments, both at the centre and in the states," said an editorial in CPI-M journal "People's Democracy".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Thursday launch the Smart Cities Mission, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) which are all intended to enhance the quality of urban living and drive economic growth.The central government has committed to spend about Rs.400,000 crore on these missions over the next six years.
25-June-15: Maharashtra minister Munde embroiled in Rs.2 bn scam
Mumbai, June 24 (IANS) Maharashtra's Women and Child Development Minister Pankaja Munde was on Wednesday embroiled in a controversy involving alleged irregularities in awarding contracts worth Rs.206 crore (Rs.2.06 billion) with the Congress demanding a CBI probe in the matter.
The minister -- daughter of union minister Gopinath Munde who died in a road accident in New Delhi last year -- is accused of doling out the multi-crore-rupee contracts through multiple Government Resolutions (GRs) on a single day (February 13) instead of adopting the e-tendering or tender route.

New Delhi, HRD Minister Smriti Irani faced embarrassment on Wednesday after a court took note of a complaint against her for allegedly distorting facts about her educational qualification, prompting the Congress and the AAP to demand her resignation from the cabinet.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was taken aback by the development, but it vehemently defended Irani who had contested the Lok Sabha election from Amethi, asserting that the distortions presented before the court flowed out of typographical errors.

New Delhi/Jaipur,Stepping up pressure for resignation of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje over her help to former IPL chief Lalit Modi, the Congress on Wednesday showed documents purportedly containing her signature which, it said, made clear she had testified for a "fugitive". Bharatiya Janata Party's Rajasthan unit president Ashok Parnami defended Raje and accused the Congress of trying to defame her.

The BJP on Friday came out in support of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, who is facing allegations of testifying in favour of former IPL chief Lalit Modi's British immigration application in 2011, even as the Congress kept up pressure for her resignation and its attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, after a meeting between Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah on Thursday evening, decided to staunchly support Vasundharar Raje and reject demands for her resignation.
19 June-15: NRIs should vote in panchayat, municipal polls: Congress
Panaji, (IANS) NRIs can participate in democracy in the true sense only after they are allowed to vote in grassroots elections to representative bodies like panchayat and municipalities, Congress Goa unit president Luizinho Faleiro said on Monday.
He said there were around 2.5 lakh NRI Goans residing in the Gulf region and another approximately 2.5 lakh NRIs from the state who were settled across the globe, mostly in Canada, Portugal, England, France and some African countries.

"Chaudhary is among four Lok Sabha members selected for the Sansad Ratna 2015 Awards for outstanding performance in the 16th Lok Sabha till the end of the budget session," K.Srinivasan, chairman, Prime Point Foundation told IANS on Wednesday.
27-May-15: Modi government removed 'loot lobby': Naqvi
Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Tuesday said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government has succeeded in removing the deep-rooted 'loot lobby' and 'champions of corruption' from the corridors of power in Delhi.
"Such people have formed an unholy nexus against the transparent and performing Modi government and they are trying to derail the development agenda," he said, while asking the BJP workers to launch 'Kalyan Parv' (welfare day) to mark completion of one-year of Modi government.
Naqvi said the BJP-led government had completed its one year on May 26 and "this one year was full of success" where the Centre, under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi took initiatives to fulfil all the promises "we made to the people".

Union Minister for Minority Affairs Najma Heptulla on Tuesday said: "If we see the corrupt acts in UPA government like the 2G and coalgate scams, I think the BJP government's achievement has been being free from corruption and our aim is to work for the development of India".
Answering a question on attacks on minorities in the country, she said: "So far as the attacks on people belonging to minorities are concerned, it is the responsibility of the state governments in the county to take care of law and order problems.
27-May-15: Modi government trumpeting more than working: Congress
Terming it as a government of "self, selfies and selfishness", the Congress on Tuesday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government for trumpeting more than actually working in the last one year.
"This one year has been a government of self, selfies and selfishness. If the government would have done some work, they would not have needed to do so many rallies... their work would have spoken for itself," Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said at a press conference here.
"The Modi government has turned out to be just an event management company. They are trying to fool people by branding themselves," Surjewala said.

In a speech marking the first anniversary of his government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday pitched his government as "pro-poor" and said it had brought "achche din (good days)" to people but "bure din (bad days)" to those who had "looted" the nation.
"Some people are troubled these days. Their trouble is that 'achche din' have come for many, but for some, 'bure din' have come... I did not guarantee 'achche din' for those who looted the nation for years," Modi said."Are the bad days over or not? Have bad deeds stopped or not? Is bad thinking over or not? Has the bad situation changed or not? Has there been any news of scam or nepotism for the past one year," he asked.
Congress extends enrolment drive; likely to push back party polls
Congress will be coming out soon with a revised schedule for its organisational polls amid signals that the election of the next party chief is going to be delayed beyond September.
An indication in that regard was available here tonight as AICC announced an extension of its enrolment drive by one month from May 15 to June 15.
Amid speculation that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi may be anointed as the next party chief, AICC had on March 26 announced its schedule for organisational elections in which the next Congress President was to be elected by September 30. A highlight of the earlier schedule was that for the first time, party polls were to be held in two phases, with the first phase covering 18 states and Union Territories and the second involving the rest.
Ten Rajya Sabha members have been named for a joint parliamentary committee on the land acquisition bill.
Left leaders, however, later complained that none of their members were included in the list, even though the government had taken names from them as well.
The motion was moved by Union Rural Development Minister Birender Singh on Wednesday.
The members are Prabhat Jha and Ram Narain Dudi of the BJP, Digvijaya Singh, Jairam Ramesh and P.L. Punia of the Congress, Ram Gopal Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, Sharad Yadav of the JD-U, Derek O'Brien of the Trinamool Congress, Rajpal Singh Saini of the BSP and Sharad Pawar of the NCP.
Budget session witnesses battle on land bill, 24 bills passed
New Delhi, Parliament's budget session that ended on Wednesday, finally saw the passage of a bill for operationalising land boundary agreement with Bangladesh. The session, spread over three months, saw 24 bills being passed with a spirited tussle between government and opposition on a range of issues including the land acquisition bill which was finally referred to a joint committee.
