Madhya Pradesh: Nine civic bodies to go to polls on Jan 31
Bhopal, Polls in nine civic bodies including Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Chhindwara municipal corporations, will be held on January 31, Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission (MPSEC) announced on Monday. With the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force.
“The counting of votes will be held on February 4 and the results will be announced the same day,” State Election Commissioner R Parasuram told reporters here today.
Besides the four municipal corporations, the elections to municipal councils of Bankhedi (Hoshangabad district), Badoni (Datia district), Shamshabad (Vidisha district), Chhapiheda (Rajgarh district) and Patera (Damoh district) will be held on January 31, he said.
The filing of nominations will start from December 30 and will end on January 6. The scrutiny of nominations will be held on January 7. According to Parasuram, voting to recall the presidents of Harda municipal council in Harda district and Chhanera municipal council in Khandwa district will also take place on January 31.
Elections for Bhopal, Jabalpur and Chhindwara municipal corporations were stayed due to legal issues.
