The BJP today started its campaign for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls, just a day after the Shiv Sena started its campaign.

 

1. Shiv Sena has maximum candidates with criminal background, BJP fields richest
2. Uddhav Thackeray says Shiv Sena-BJP alliance never in future, ahead of the Mumbai civic body elections.
3. Fadnavis alleged that Shiv Sena is in talks with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Latur.
4. Voting will take place on 21st Februrary 2017 morning 7 am and counting will take place on 23rd feb 2017.

The BMC, Brihanmumbai Mahanagarpalika covers an area of 480.24 sqkms. with a population of 1,19,14,378 as per the census of 2001. The metropolis accounts major portion of India's international trade and government revenue, from being one of the foremost centers of education, science and technological research and advancement

It is also pertinent to note that Mumbai's all-round growth owed a lot to the early development of the system of local government under British rule.

With the Maharashtra Election Commission set to complete a delimitation exercise ahead of the 2017 elections to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, anxiety and uncertainty are evident among corporators in South Mumbai, where the total number of corporator wards is expected to shrink significantly. A smaller number of wards in the Colaba to Matunga belt, plus anticipated changes in which wards fall under reservations for SC/ST and women candidates, means sitting corporators including some seniors could face a tough contest even to get a party ticket.
