Maharashtra polls 2014: Congress likely to declare first list of candidates today
New Delhi: Congress is likely to declare its first list of candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections on Monday even as the deadlock over seat sharing withNCP continues. The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the party is currently underway in the national capital and is likely to finalise the candidates for Assembly polls in Maharashtra and Haryana.
The declaration of candidates comes a day after Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan snubbed NCP after it gave an ultimatum on its demand to contest on 144 seats in the October 15 Assembly elections. Chavan said that talks are on in the matter and that such discussions do not take place through press conferences.
While speaking on sidelines of a function in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, Chavan said that no alliances have taken shape as yet and the list of the candidates needs to be declared as only few days are left for the polls. Meanwhile, NCP chief Praful Patel had given Congress another day to revert on the seat sharing matter. A meeting of the NCP core committee is also scheduled to be held in Mumbai today to take a final call on the matter.
