BJP rejects Shiv Sena's 'final offer' of 119 seats

BJP rejects Shiv Sena's 'final offer' of 119 seatsThe Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday rejected Shiv Sena's final offer of 119 seats for the Maharashtra Assembly elections, complaining that while the BJP was compromising, the Shiv Sena was not. The party also said that they were only demanding redistribution of seats that the Shiv Sena had not won for 25 years.

"We have always worked to save the alliance. BJP has sacrificed but they (Shiv Sena) don't compromise on their front," said BJP leader Eknath Khadse. "We are not happy with their proposal of 119 seats. We have been fighting these seats already. We had asked for 135 seats for BJP. Later, we asked for 130 seats. Seats they haven't won in 25 years need to be re-distributed," he said.

Another BJP leader Vinod Tawde said the seat distribution should be such that Congress is defeated in the elections. "Seat sharing needs to be such that Congress is defeated. Such issues need to be discussed face to face," he said. "BJP-Shiv Sena alliance is very old. It should be taken forward. And if alliance needs to be maintained there is no last formula," he added.

Asserting that this is our fight for existence, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday offered the last formula to its Mahayuti partner Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), giving it 119 seats in the Assembly elections in Maharashtra and leaving 18 seats to the allies. Thackeray has said the Shiv Sena would contest on 151 seats.

"I am offering this last formula - Sena 151, 18 seats to allies and 119 seats to the BJP," Thackeray told the supporters, while speaking in Marathi, at a gathering where he thundered the alliance had not been set up for power.

"It was about the Hindutva. There have been many developments during the last 25 years. I wanted to say many things today, but will say when the time comes," he said.
