Bengali TV survey: Several TMC leaders may lose, Bengal polls, Mamata Banerjee, Sujan Chakraborty, WB Assembly Polls, West Bengal Assembly election 2016, TMC,Bengal Elections
Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee will defeat the Left-Congress joint nominee Deepa Das Munshi from Bhawanipore constituency, but many of her party and Cabinet colleagues will find it difficult to make it to the next Assembly. These are the findings of an opinion poll aired on Monday by a leading Bengali TV channel.
Prominent among the ruling party losers may include such heavyweights as Manish Gupta, the power minister in the present government who could lose to the CPI(M)’s Sujan Chakraborty from Jadavpur. Gupta had created history in 2011 by humbling then chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.
Another surprise loser could be Abdur Rezzak Mollah in Bhangar. Mollah is a recent entrant into the Trinamool from the CPI(M). He won from Canning in 2011 bucking the Trinamool sweep trend.
In Kalimpong, where there is a prestige fight on between Harka Bahadur Chettri and the GJM nominee, Sarita Roy, the former could lose. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has openly pledged her party’s support for Chhetri, who is contesting as his newly-floated Jan Andolan Party candidate.
But tourism minister Bratya Basu may win in Dum Dum, defeating CPI(M)’s Palash Das. Panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee will also win in Ballygunge. But education minister Partha Chatterjee has a tough fight on his hands in Behala (West). However, Kolkata mayor Sovan Chatterjee will have a smooth sailing against Ambikesh Mahapatra in Behala (East).
