Eye on clean sweep: TMC to sound poll bugle after Kali Puja

With an aim to secure an absolute majority in the 2016 assembly elections and increase its 2011 tally substantially, the ruling Trinamool Congress will start its poll campaign after the festive season ends, that is, after Kali Puja.

The state leadership of the party has taken a decision in this regard and already informed the district leadership about this. The different districts have also been asked to get into poll mode.

Sources said that the Trinamool Congress leadership does not want to lose precious campaign time or want the campaign to be compromised because of examinations like higher secondary (HS).

“Examinations such as Madhyamik and HS will start from February and will continue till the end of March or the first week of April. As a result, the ban on using microphones will come into effect from January. If the assembly election is held towards the end of April or May, we get hardly a month to campaign. So we have decided that after Kali Puja is over, we will start our campaign. Our state leadership has given its nod,” said Anubrata Mondal, Birbhum district Trinamool Congress president.

“Our leader Mamata Banerjee will start visiting the different districts to campaign from time to time. During her visit she will join party workers’ meeting, address rallies,” he added.

Mondal said that Mamata has completed 100 meetings to assess the development work in each district. So, after the Pujas, she will start visiting the districts for campaigning.

Before the festive season, the district leadership is now giving emphasis on starting review from booth level to district level, from screening of voters’ lists to a survey of people’s opinion. “This one month, people will be busy with agricultural work, but after August, massive work will start throughout the district. We will make sure our message will reach every corner of the district. Before the state leadership announces the candidates’ name, we will be ready to fight and win,” Mondal said.

“Like our leader Mamata Banerjee, we know that 2016 is ours. Trinamool Congress will form the state government. We will contest this election to bag absolute majority with a gigantic margin,” said a senior leader of the Trinamool Congress.

In the last assembly election, out of 294 seats in the state assembly, Trinamool Congress had got an absolute majority by winning 191 seats alone.
