Hyderabad: Election Commission of India will release electoral rolls of voters in Telangana on October 12. After the orders of the Hyderabad High Court, it was decided that the Election Commission allowed the publication of revised electoral roll. The court found that any objection can be raised later on the list of voters.
The court’s direction came after the completion of hearing on a Public Interest litigation (PIL) filed on the issue. Another petition on electoral rolls filed by senior Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy was postponed for hearing on October 12.
Two judges' benches of the High Court in Hyderabad, including Chief Justice TBN Radhakrishnan and Justice SV Bhatt, directed the EC to register an affidavit to give details of the formalities of the date fixed for updating the correction letter and voters list. The bench was accused by the PIL filed by Shashidhar Reddy in large numbers in the state election rolls.
EC officials said that on October 12, the publication of the electoral roll is only a draft list which is filed by a voter by a voter, which can be filed up to 3 o'clock on November 19, the last date for filing nominations.
Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer Rajath Kumar told media persons that the EC received about 33.14 lakh objections and representations on the draft electoral list of which 22.36 applications were for issuing new voter identity cards. As on Wednesday, the EC cleared about 30 lakh applications. The existing electoral rolls comprise about 2.61 crore voters and another 20 lakh voters are expected to get enrolled in the list.
