Suresh said candidates have been announced for 20 district panchayat divisions, while five of the candidates will be announced on Wednesday. He also said that 90 per cent of candidates for the grama panchayts and block panchayats in the district have already been announced.
Speaking to Express, BJP state spokesman V V Rajesh said there was no stalemate over any candidate or seats to be contested as far as the BJP or NDA is concerned. Rajesh said BJP was hoping to win majority of seats in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. ‘’In several municipalities and local bodies, BJP’s numbers will be crucial in electing the office-bearers,’’ he said.
He said the understanding reached between the SNDP and BJP was to help evolve cooperation between the two organisations at the local level. There has been smooth sailing for it all thoroughout the state.
The same kind of understanding has also been reached with several caste and social organisations in different part of the state. KPMS has also fielded several candidates as BJP-supported independents.
