  1. Dissolution: of the present 55th Parliament on 30 March 2015.
  2. Schedule:Election will be held on 7 May 2015, unless the House of Commons votes for an earlier date
  3. Local elections: scheduled to take place on the same day across most of England, with the notable exception of Greater London.
  4. No additional elections scheduled to take place in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, apart from any local by-elections.
  5. General election no: 55th in the United Kingdom since 1801 (earlier elections took place for parliaments in Great Britain and Ireland)
  6. Conservative Party: led by David Cameron, the current Prime Minister. The Conservatives are the larger party in the current coalition government, having won the most seats at the 2010 election.
  7. Labour Party: led by Ed Miliband. Labour was previously in power from 1997-2010.
  8. Other Imp Parties -
  9. Liberal Democrats: the Liberal Democrats are the junior member of the coalition Government. The LibDems and predecessor parties have been the third party of British politics since 1922. However, they have generally been fourth in polling since 2013 and sometimes fifth since late 2014.
  10. Scottish National Party: the SNP only contest seats in Scotland.
  11. UK Independence Party: UKIP won the fourth most votes at the 2010 election, but failed to win any seats.
