Sikkim municipal corporation election would be held as per the schedule. since throughout the country all elections are planned to be held as per schedule according to eci i.e in October 2020
Elections in 2015 details
Municipal Election 2015 for Urban Local Bodies of Three Districts of Sikkim was carried successfully today in 43 wards of Gangtok (17), Singtam (05), Rangpo(05), Jorthang (07),Namchi (06, 1 SDF candidate uncontested), Geyzing (02, 05 SDF candidates uncontested) and solely North District Mangan all 05 SDF.
All Together In Sikkim 66.79 pc Voting Was Recorded on 09 Oct
- In East Dstrict Gangtok Municipal Corporation has recorded 64.72 pc
- Singtam Nagar Panchayat 74.04 pc
- Rangpo Nagar Panchayat has recorded 75.49 pc of voters turnout.
- South District Namchi Municipal Council 65.58 pc
- Jorethang Nayabazar Municipal Council 71.01 pc voters turnout recorded
- West District Gyalshing Municipal Council 77.01 pc turnout was recorded.
The voting was started at 8 AM in morning and was closed at 5 PM across all 73 polling stations. Polling officers reported to control rooms with polled EVMs in three districts DACs.
Vote count will take place on 12 Oct Monday.
The two major political parties comprising of ruling Sikkim Democratic front SDF led by Pawan Chamling and Sikkim Krantikaari Morcha SKM led by PS Golay are teething in this election where there are independent candidates as well as Bharatiya Janta Party BJP candidates in some places. The major attraction is presumed to be Gangtok Municipal Council GMC where rival SKM is supposed to have worked out thoroughly. It may be recalled that during the candidate nomination filings there was dispute regarding Bhutia and Lepcha community seats in this election, in which SEC clarified the matter. In purview of election the state observed a paid holiday notified by SEC today to carry smooth turnout of voters.
Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling and his wife along with daughter cast their vote in Government New Secondary School, Namchi.
It may recalled that in 2010 in same election all wards was uncontested won by ruling SDF party. Speaking to VOS the voters this time expressed satisfaction that they were able to select their candidates according to their choice.
In totality the polling was peaceful with blanket of reserve forces , police and hawk eyes keeping vigil on entire polling duration for providing full security without giving any lapses in all the stations.
With this now 98 candidates luck has been sealed in EVMs which will be counted on 12 Oct!
10 Oct Update , 7 AM : Police case has been lodged against senior SDF functionary Madan Cintury and eight other for alleged trying to bribe and influence the voter by visiting SKM supporter’s house in Nayabazar Chitrey Village on 09 Oct.
In the matter as per sources, Cintury and three others were arrested by Nayabazar Police, case registered against them under secs 448, 171C and 34 of IPC. Later they were released on bail, Police in search for others, says sources.
