Shillong, Dec 1: 

The United Democratic Party (UDP) cleared six names as its candidates from the Shillong city Saturday for the upcoming Meghalaya assembly election 2013. The names include of UDP bigwigs deputy chief minister Bindo M Lanong and its working president Paul Lyngdoh.

UDP Shillong unit secretary Allantry F Dkhar told reporters after the general council meeting of the party Saturday, “We have cleared the names of candidates from the seven constituencies. However the names of six candidates have been approved by the State Election Committee of the party, one name will be declared later.”

Besides Lanong who will contest from East Shillong constituency and Paul Lyngdoh  from West Shillong, the other four names are that of  Principal Polly Dew School and national awardee Ibarilin Kharsati – North Shillong, MDC Embhahlang Syiemlieh – Mawlai, Predecessor Rumnong from Pynthorbah and Dr Jemino Mawthoh from Nongthymmai constituency.

The name of Edward Kharwanlang from South Shillong constituency shortlisted by the district unit will be shortly announced after the approval of the state election committee, informed Dkhar.

The UDP general council meeting also elected new office bearers of the Shillong District unit with Bindo M Lanong as president, Paul Lyngdoh, HL Massar, Embhah Syiemlieh as vice presidents, Allantry F Dkhar – secretary, Michael War, R Syiemiong, R Massar, P Rumnong – joint secretaries, Dr Jemino Mawthoh – chief organizing secretary, Wansynshar Bareh and LB Khain – assistant organizing secretaries, Edward Kharwanlang – publicity secretary, Danny Donai, Khlain Pale and Micky Shabong as assist publicity secretaries, Ibarinlin Kharsati – treasurer, Rosina Mawroh, Sara Kharmuti, Barbie Diengdoh as women’s wing converners while Pherborn Khain, Andrew Jyrwa, Aldrin Sna and Teiboklang Kharkongor have been elected as district youth wing conveners.

The meeting further decided to suggest to its the parent body to feature the right to public service act and job creation in the manifesto of the party, Dkhar revealed.
