With eye on polls, MCDs set for image makeover
Ahead of the civic polls in the city in 2017, the BJP-led three municipal bodies have been asked to go for an image-building exercise. For this, the corporators have been asked to focus on corruption issues and bring those responsible to task. Interestingly, the party is now trying to hijack the corruption issue, which has been the main poll agenda of the Aam Aadmi Party.
In a weekly meeting held with the city corporators, senior BJP leaders have asked them to take strict action against officials found indulging in any act of corruption.
According to a source in the party, the BJP leadership has advised the corporators to take the issue of corruption seriously, as it would help the three civic bodies in the municipal corporation polls.

The source said, “The time has come to take the faulty and the bribe-taking officials to task. The exercise is being done to rebuild the image of the civic bodies in the city.” On the sidelines of the meeting, the corporators were also asked to focus on the BJP membership drive, which is in its last leg.
The source said that in a bid to improve performance of the saffron party and its image among the Delhiites, the senior BJP leaders would now audit the work done by the municipal corporators.
The Delhi BJP has asked local party leaders to prepare a report on the work done by the councillors in their respective areas.
However, the move has divided the party. Some corporators are looking at the move as a great way to encourage transparency in the system, but others believe that it would encourage involvement of outsiders. The move is also being considered a tool to analyse proper distribution of tickets in the municipal polls.
