BJP to release vision document, not manifesto

New Delhi: With Delhi polls nearing, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday chalked out an aggressive plan to win the high-pitched battle.

In an attempt to take on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has turned out to be the biggest threat for the BJP in Delhi, the national party has decided to hold 250 rallies across the national capital in a week.

The BJP has also decided not to release a manifesto for Delhi polls; instead Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi will come out with a vision document.

"We will not release a party's manifesto for the Delhi Assembly election this time. Instead, we will come out with a vision document. The party has set a target to win the upcoming polls," senior party leader and Union Minister Ananth Kumar said after the meeting.

BJP members from 13 states and 120 MPs will be part of the Delhi campaign.

In order to target Arvind Kejriwal, the BJP will also put five questions before the AAP chief till February 05.

Kumar said more than 1.20 lakh booth in-charges and 'panna pramukhs' have been roped in to campaign and apprise people about BJP's plans for the city. He said the party will put up around 1000 posters in every constituency.

Earlier today, BJP president Amit Shah attended a meeting with senior party leaders to deliberate on the campaign strategy ahead of Delhi Assembly elections.

Union Minister Arun Jaitley, Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu, Ananth Kumar and all the seven MPs from Delhi met Shah.

The seven Delhi MPs include Dr Harsh Vardhan, Maheish Girri, Meenakshi Lekhi, Manoj Tiwari, Udit Raj, Ramesh Bidhuri and Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma.

The meet came after BJP on Wednesday pushed some of its big guns into Delhi's electoral battle, asking its Union Cabinet ministers and a chief minister to campaign for the February 7 elections in which it is involved in tough fight against Arvind Kejriwal's AAP.

As the countdown for the high-stakes poll battle begins, Human Resource Minister Smriti Irani and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj hit the campaign trail addressing several rallies in South and North West Delhi to woo the voters.

The party also roped in Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who held a public meeting in Bijwasan area of South West Delhi amid indications that more Union ministers and central leaders will hit the roads in the next few days.

Sources in the BJP said though its chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi has been addressing roadshows in various areas, the party does not want to take any chances and has decided to deploy its top leaders to campaign in the city.
