Arun Jaitley to head BJP's Gujarat poll team.

Amit Shah appoints managers for upcoming Assembly polls in Karnataka and other states as well.

  • Indicating that stakes are high in the Gujarat assembly polls against the Congress whose tail has gone up since Ahmed Patel's Rajya Sabha win, Bharatiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah on Thursday announced a five-member team to be led by Union Minister for Finance and Defence Arun Jaitley to manage the polls.
  • Shah has also deputed top cabinet ministers - Nirmala Sitharaman, Narendra Singh Tomar, Dr Jitendra Singh and P P Choudhary - to assist Jaitley where a win by a big margin has become a prestige issue for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

BJP sources said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be BJP's main face in Gujarat elections. Besides Amit Shah will also campaign extensively.

Javadekar, who is considered adept in sorting out tough situations, said on his maiden Karnataka assignment, "People want a change in Karnataka. The BJP has tremendous support in the state and the party has a very strong team there. We will together carryout the responsibility bestowed on us by the party."
