GUWAHATI: With BJP and Bodoland Peoples' Front (BPF) inching closer to have political understanding for the assembly election 2016, Assam chief Minister Tarun Gogoi took a dig at the BJP for trying to cobble an alliance with the BPF and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).
To woo the Schedule caste community ahead of election Gogoi announced a special package for Rs 1,000 crore for the development of Scheduled Caste (SC) community.
BPF's Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary met Prime minister, Narendra Modi recently and this has fueled the speculation that BPF and BJP are inching closer.
BPF has presented a wish list to Centre which included a special package of Rs 5,000 crore spread over five years. The BTC leaders demanded the release of Rs 1,000 crore annually for the next five years.
Nine tribal and indigenous organisations have formed a political party United People's Front (UPF) and will contest as many as 30 seats in 2016 assembly polls.

Nine tribal and indigenous organisations have formed a political party United People's Front (UPF) and will contest as many as 30 seats in 2016 assembly polls.
BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary is the architect of this front. BPF is ruling the Bodoland territorial council (BTC), the sixth schedule area and has 12 MLA in state assembly.
Gogoi on Sunday said that BJP's Mission 84 has gone topsy-turvy with a shaky and nervous party trying to cobble alliance with BPF-AGP having diametrically opposite ideologies just to capture power following defeats in one election after the other.
"The leaders of the BJP have been all along making tall claims that it would on its own win 84 Assembly seats and even more. But now the party has become shaky and nervous after defeats in one election after the other. They are now trying desperately to cobble an alliance with the BPF and AGP having contradictory ideologies," Gogoi said, adding that the BJP is also having truck with ex-militant leaders and fundamentalists."
Gogoi said that the BJP lacks ideology and principle and could go to any extent to grab power in the State. "Unlike the BJP, the Congress will fight the elections alone as it has the support of the people," Gogoi said, adding that the State BJP leaders are keen on appeasing Central leaders by touching their feet whereas the Congress leaders are seeking the blessings of the people to serve them in a better way."
Gogoi announced a special package for Rs 1,000 crore for the development of Scheduled Caste community in the State. The Chief Minister also announced that an Institute of Social Justice will be set up in the name of Bharat Ratna Dr. BR Ambedkar.
