Declared Democratic Presidential Candidate 2012
Barack Obama: Current US President, Tenure (2008 - 2012)
Born to a Kenyan father and an American mother, the former community activist and lawyer came into national prominence with a show stopping keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston, befitting his reputation as a brilliant orator. In 2008, fought and won against Hillary Clinton for Democratic nomination Later defeated Republican John McCain to become the first African American president.
Randall Terry : Pro-life Activist
At a glance, it may seem a little odd for a pro-life and anti-LGBT candidate to run for the Democratic nomination. A closer look however, would tell us that an estimated 30-40% of Democrats actually shares the 52-year old Terry’s views. An anti-abortionist radical, but quite popular with people with this vote%.
Obama's Tenure Highlights
During Obama's presidency, he signed two pieces of economic stimulus - the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in February 2009 and the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 in December 2010. As President, Obama also signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, and the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act of 2010. Obama signed New START, an arms control treaty with Russia, began to gradually withdraw troops from Iraq, began to increase troops in Afghanistan, and enforced the United Nations-sanctioned no-fly zone over Libya. And on May 1, 2011, President Obama ordered the military operation that resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden in Pakistan.
