Obama seeks support to attack Syria while negotiating diplomatic solution.
Washington, Sept. 11 (ANI): US President Barack Obama is reportedly seeking support from the public and Congress for authorization to attack Syria while trying to negotiate a diplomatic solution to the Syria's violation of global ban on chemical weapons.
Obama, on Tuesday, called the US 'the anchor of global security' and offered moral, political and strategic arguments for being ready to launch limited military strikes on Syria.
According to the CNN, the president said that US must act when dictators such as Syrian President Bashar al-Assad 'brazenly' violate international treaties intended to protect humanity.
In his 15-minute nationally televised speech, Obama made the final push to win support from a skeptical public and Congress for his planned attack on Syria as a result of the major chemical weapons attack on August 21 that killed more than 1,400 people in suburban Damascus.
Obama further said that the idea of any military action, no matter how limited, is not going to be popular, however, he rejected criticism that such a limited military response would prove meaningless, the report added.
