Uttar Pradesh polls 2017: Quami Ekta Dal merges with Samajwadi Party again, Akhilesh Yadav, Shivpal Yadav, Mulayam Yadav, Afzal Ansari, Mukhtar Ansari

On June 21, 2016, Ansari had merged Qaumi Ekta Dal with SP in the first merger or coalition between parties in the state ahead of assembly polls to be held early next year.

“QED has merged with SP which would strengthen the party,” SP spokesman and senior Cabinet Minister Shivpal Yadav had announced back then after a press conference.

However, Shivpal had to cancel the decision after Akhilesh openly expressed his unhappiness following the merger.

According to party sources, Mulayam decided to merge the QED with the SP to pacify Shivpal, who was upset over the merger being called off.

Meanwhile, when asked about Akhilesh saying he was unaware of the change of candidates for the assembly elections, Shivpal said the names were announced only after consultations with Akhilesh and Mulayam. He said the new 81-member state executive was also finalised following consultations with the father-son duo.

About the candidature of Amanmani Tripathi, who is facing a CBI probe for the alleged murder of his wife Sara, Shivpal said the CBI report was yet to come out and there was no court judgment on the case either.
