RJD will not contest 2017 Uttar Pradesh elections: Lalu Prasad Yadav, Uttar Pradesh assembly election 2017, Lalu Prasad Yadav, UP polls
RJD President Lalu Prasad on Tuesday said his party would not field any candidate in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election and would work in favour of "secular" forces. "RJD will not field any candidate in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh election," he told reporters in his native district.
“RJD will not field any candidate in UP…the party would work in favour of secular forces and defeat communal forces led by the RSS and BJP,” Mr. Prasad told journalists in his home district Gopalgunj.
Asked if his party would support SP in the elections, he said, “Mulayam Singh is my samdhi [relative] and I’ll definitely take special care of him.”
“My first priority is to stop secular votes from getting divided and to demolish the RSS and BJP, right now my main focus is on this,’ Mr. Prasad said.
Taking a dig at Mr.Prasad ’s declaration not to contest elections in UP, senior Bihar BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav said, “Where is the political base of RJD in UP? Lalu Prasad Yadav has realised that his party would not get even a single seat in UP, that is why he has given such statement. The JD(U) too would realise this fact soon.”
