UP Assembly Elections likely in December 2016 indicates Akhilesh Yadav, Uttar Pradesh assembly Elections, Uttar Pradesh, Election Commission, Samajwadi Party (SP), Assembly Elections-2017, Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2017
The legislative assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh is likely to be conducted this year, as per the indications given by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. The Samajwadi Party leader claimed that elections could be conducted by December, 2016.
The news has surprised pollsters, who had expected the state to move into polls in March 2017, along with Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand and Gujarat.
“The news we are receving is that elections could be conducted this year only in December,” Akhilesh Yadav said while speaking at an event organized by Dainik Jagran. Boasting claims of his victory in the upcoming polls, he added, “Samajwadi Party would emerge as the winner. The contest is only for the no.2 spot.”
According to Election Commission website, the tenure of Uttar Pradesh assembly ends in May 2017. The entire electoral process needs to be completed before the dissolution of the assembly. In 2012, the elections were conducted in six phases during February and March. Pollsters had expected the next state elections to be conducted around the same time next year.
