More than a dozen candidates submitted their papers on the last day of nomination filing process on Monday to contest by-elections for the post of the mayor of Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC). At the final close of nomination filing counters at 3 pm, the total number of candidates to have entered the by-election fray stood at 15.
Till Sunday, just one candidate - an independent - had submitted his candidature for the post, which is reserved for candidates belonging to the category of Other Backward Classes (OBCs). Ghaziabad district administration had opened the nomination filing process on January 12.
