Azamgarh:

Former Bahujan Samajwadi Party MLA Sarvesh Kumar Singh alias Sipu and his two aides were shot dead on Friday by two unknown assailants in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh.

Soon after he was shot dead, his supporters started protesting against the state government and also set several vehicles on fire in the city. Uttar Pradesh ADG (law and order) Arun Kumar rushed to spot and said the situation is tense but under control.

Uttar Pradesh IG (law and order) RK Vishwakarma said, Singh had gone to Azamgarh police station for some work and while returning home he was shot by two unidentified men. We don't know who the two were.

The BSP leader was shot dead by two unknown gunmen outside his house. Preliminary reports suggested that it was a case of family rivalry and a property dispute but Singh's supporters said that he was killed by those who had close ties with the ruling Samajwadi Party.

He reportedly had a property dispute with some people and on Friday two of them shot him dead along with one of their associates.

After leaving the BSP, Singh was eyeing a ticket either from the Congress or the BJP for the next Lok Sabha election.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has condemend the incident.
