Coimbatore: Officials have started preparation work for the upcoming local body election. They have received details of voters from the election department at the district collectorate and will segregate voters ward wise.

1. The state Election Commission has decided to conduct the local body election for 100 wards of the city municipal corporation, Mettupalayam, Pollachi and Valparai municipalities, Anaimalai, Kottur, Udaiyakulam, Samathur, Sooleswaranpatti, Vettaikaranpudur, Jameenuthukuli town panchayats and Pollachi (North), Pollachi (South) and Anaimalai panchayat unions on October 17.
2. The second phase of the election will be conducted for 30 town panchayats and nine panchayat unions on October 19.
3. As many as 12,092 staff will be appointed for the first phase of the local body polland 12,009 staff will be appointed for the second phase.
5. Coimbatore district has one corporation, three municipalities (Mettupalayam, Pollachi and Valparai), 37 town panchayats, 228 village panchayats, 12 panchayat unions and one district panchayat.
7. As of now, the district has 14, 09037 male voters, 14, 24005 female voters and 207 third gender voters.
8. Terms of the present municipal and local bodies (corporation, municipality, town panchayat, village panchayat, panchayat unions and district panchayat) will expire on October 24.

Those residing within corporation limits, will vote for councillor and mayor. Those residing in the village panchayats will elect the village panchayat ward councillor, panchayat president, councillor of panchayat union and councillor for district panchayat.
