685 Cases Pending Against LDF Candidates in fray of TN Polls: says Chandy , Oommen Chandy, CPM candidates, Criminal cases, Tamil Nadu Polls, Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2016
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy hit back at the CPM and LDF today, barbing with a list of 685 cases pending against Left front candidates in the fray of the upcoming assembly polls.
"It is the biggest proof for pursuing the politics of violence by the Left," Chandy charged, while countering an opposition campaign on pending cases against him and his cabinet colleagues. In a statement to counter the campaign of opposition leader VS Achuthanandan and other Left leaders by raising the charge that UDF ministers are swimming in a cesspool of cases ,Chandy also reiterated that there is not even a single case against him.
Among the total 943 cases pending against the Assembly poll contestants, as per the affidavits filed while submitting the nomination papers to contest the polls, LDF candidates are carrying the baggage of a whopping 685 cases against them. Chandy said that most of the candidates involved in the cases were 'beneficiaries of the politics of violence'.
Among the remaining cases in the list,152 cases are against BJP-BDJS candidates. UDF candidates in the poll fray have 106 cases to contest. In the split up of cases, CPM nominees are facing 617 and Congress candidates have 79 cases against them.
V S Achuthanandan has six cases, out of which,one is connected with an agitation staged in front of the secretariat. The remaining five are defamation cases. Eleven cases are pending against CPM politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan, including the SNC Lavalin case. In the charge sheet submitted by the CBI, Pinarayi Vijayan stands as the seventh accused.
M V Nikesh Kumar, the new entrant in the CPM and LDF candidate in the Azheekode segment tops the list with 57 cases against him. Kazhakoottam segment LDF candidate Kadakampally Surendran comes second with 45 cases. A N Shamseer, LDF candidate in Thalaserry has 35 cases, to stand third in the line up.
Notable among the CPM candidates who are the accused in a very high number of cases are K K Latika (Kuttiadi) - 32, V Sivan Kutty (Nemom) - 31,V Salim (Aluva) - 26,Benoy Kurien (Peravoor) - 25,Antony John (Kothamangalam)- 24, A A Rasheed (Aruvikkara) -22, E P Jayarajan (Mattannur ) - 21 and M Swaraj (Trippinithura)- 20.
