The People's Welfare Front consisting of CPM, CPI, MDMK and VCK has promised half litre free milk to families with infants and school going children.

MDMK chief Vaiko released the alliance's manifesto at his party's headquarters here on Thursday. CPM state secretary G Ramakrishnan, CPI state secretary R Mutharasan and VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan and others were present.

Released by MDMK chief Vaiko, the manifesto also promised the formation of an ethics committee to guide governance, a new ‘Right to avail Service’.

Highlights of PWF manifesto 2016:

1. Total prohibition of liquor
2. Formation of Lokayukta to curb corruption in the state
3. Penalize the perpetrators of war crimes against Sri Lankan Tamils
4. To promote transparent governance, the ‘Right to avail service’ law will be constituted.
5. Formation of Ethics committee to guide government
6. Promotion of the Tamil language
7. Penalize the perpetrators of war crimes against Sri Lankan Tamils
8. Freedom of speech, expression and opinion will be safeguarded.
9. Propose discounts for farmer loans availed from national banks. Also farmer loans will be cancelled.
10. Milk prices will be reduced
11. Will try to stop Karnataka government from building dams across Cauvery; will try to increase water level at Mullaiperiyar Dam to 152 ft.
12. Landless and poor farmers will be entitled to two acres of land.
13. Increase the production of electricity to ensure the state is a power-surplus state.
14. Samacheer Kalvi will be brought up to match the standards of CBSE and Kendriya Vidyalayas.
15. Infants and school-going children belonging to BPL families will be provided with half-litre of free milk per day.
16. Fishermen families settled along the coasts of Tamil Nadu will be provided with free houses.
