Numerous promises for farmers, educated youth, industrial growth, enforcement of total prohibition, enactment of Right to Service Act to ensure time-bound grievance redressal for public, administrative reforms and importance to local bodies are some of the highlights of the Congress manifesto for the May 16 Assembly elections released on Wednesday.
The manifesto also sang paeans to the welfare schemes of past two UPA regimes and promised to implement in Tamil Nadu.
One of the interesting promise is that the nomenclature like ‘Chaeri’ and ‘Colony’ used to describe areas where Dalits reside will be removed through proper legislation, and that Scheduled Class/Scheduled Tribe welfare Commission will be set in Tamil Nadu on the line of similar bodies in 12 other States.
The manifesto said voluntary organisation and anti-liquor associations would be roped in for effective implementation of prohibition in Tamil Nadu while the Congress would demand enforcement of prohibition nationwide.
The manifesto was released by Mukul Wasnik, in-charge of Congress affairs in Tamil Nadu and the first copy was received by TNCC president EVKS Elangovan at the party headquarters Satyamurthi Bhavan here.
Here are the highlights of the TNCC Manifesto ahead of the elections:
1. Complete Prohibition will be implemented
2. Jallikattu to be legalized in the state.
3. Formation of Lokayukta in Tamil Nadu
4. Expansion and technological upgradation of Uzhavar Sandhais (Farmers’ market)
5. Complete and uninterrupted power supply at subsidized rates
6. Farmers above the age of 60 will be provided a grant of Rs.2000 every month
7. A world-class library to be established in every district
8. A medical college to be established in evry district
9. Will work on a solution to both Cauvery and Mullai Periyar issue, that will do justice to the rights of all citizens
10. 7th Pay Commission to be implemented in Tamil Nadu without further delay
11. Association for the Welfare of Government Employees to be formed
12. A fisherman will be awarded Rs.150/per and Rs.6500 for 40 days during a posed ban on fishing.
13. Metro line plan to be formulated for Madurai, Trichy, Coimbatore and Selam and construction of the same to be started.
14. Statue for Nadigar Thilagam Shivaji Ganesan between the Mahatma Gandhi Statue and Kamaraj statue in Marina
15. To make Tamil mandatory in primary school.
