A full Election Commission team, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi, will visit Tamil Nadu and Puducherry beginning Tuesday to meet State government representatives and political parties in order to review the poll preparedness there.
The team will begin its visit with Puducherry on February 9 and on the evening of February 10 leave for Tamil Nadu, which they are scheduled to visit on February 11, sources in the Election Commission said.
The full EC team visited Kerala from February 3-5. The commission has already visited West Bengal and Assam, the two other states, which are going to polls this year.
Assembly elections to five states are likely be held in West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in April-May.
While the terms of the Tamil Nadu and the West Bengal assemblies are coming to an end in May, the legislatures of Kerala, Puducherry and Assam will finish their terms in June.
During their visits to Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, the commission members will meet top administration and police officials besides representatives of political parties before taking a call on fixing the poll schedule.
Since the elections are in five states at the same time, the EC will take into consideration the availability of central forces while deciding the schedule.
The commission is likely to factor in festivals, weather conditions and school examinations while working out the schedule.
