The Election Commission has directed the Tamil Nadu government to transfer officials who have been holding the same posts for three of more than three years. This is to ensure that the assembly elections are held in a free and fair manner in the state in 2016.
In a communique dated December 15, the Election Commission asked the state chief electoral officer Rajesh Lakhoni to issue an order transferring such officials.
In a letter dated December 23, Lakhoni asked all district election officers and collector of Chennai district to shift officials who have been holding the same posts, which are connected to the election machinery, for three or more than three years.
"The EC has directed that officials who are connected with the conduct of elections in the state do not serve in their home districts or places where they have served for long and decided that no officer connected directly with elections should be allowed to continue in the present district or posting," said Lakhoni.
"The EC will take appropriate action against officials who are indirectly connected with election," warned the chief electoral officer.
