R K Nagar assembly bypoll: Election Commission announces nine regulations

CHENNAI: The Election Commission of India has announced nine regulations to be followed from Thursday till the closure of polling for the byelection in the R K Nagar assembly constituency on June 27.

The regulations are:

1. No one can convene, hold or attend any public meeting or procession in connection with the election.

2. No one can communicate and display any election subjects to the public.

3. No one can propagate any election related matters to public by holding a musical concert or any theatrical performance or any other entertainment or amusement with a view to attracting the members of the public. Any violation of this provision is punishable with imprisonment for two years or fine or both.

4. All political functionaries who have been brought from outside the constituency and who are not voters of the constituency should leave the constituency immediately after 5pm on June 25.

5. The vehicle permits given to the candidates would cease to be valid after 5pm.

6. On the date of poll, each candidate is entitled to get three permits for the use of candidate, election agent and party workers.

7. No candidate will be allowed to hire or procure or use his or her vehicle or agent's vehicle for transporting voters to and fro the polling station. This is a corrupt practice and punishable under Representation of People Act, 1951.

8. Temporary campaign office of the candidates/political parties can be set up only 200 metre away from the polling stations manned by only two people with no criminal backgrounds and who are voters having EPIC of the same polling station area.

9. Eateries and unnecessary crowd should be avoided.
