Ajnala is a town and a Nagar panchayat in Amritsar district in the state of Punjab, India. Polling in the district was almost 52 per cent on Wednesday, which shows a lack of interest among the voters. In 2017, the percentage of voting in the assembly elections was 61, thus, this figure has dropped 9 per cent.

In the meantime, Booth no. Of Gogmahal village of Ajnala block Polling in 42 has been postponed due to scams between two groups. The conflict took place when a group of men accused that he had impersonated each other for casting a person to cast votes. Officials said that a new election schedule will be announced later.

Along with Congress, village level leaders of SAD had to work hard to bring voters to the polling booths. In most of the villages, a free ride was given on tractors and autos for taking voters to booths. Voters said they were not known for the candidates in the field. The lack of awareness about the powers and functions of the Zilla Parishad and the Block Committee is another reason behind their deviation.

Elections were held for the 24 seats of the Zilla Parishad and 155 seats of Block as one Zila Parishad seat and 45 of Block Samitis have already been declared unpredictable.

District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kamaldeep Singh Sangh said that ballots were kept in strong rooms at different places. He said that heavy security has been deployed. Counting will be done on September 22.
