 Aam Aadmi Party Campaign strategy

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which had won four seats from Punjab in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and is seen as a strong contender in the state elections, too is betting big on overseas support. "Outside India, there are many Little Punjabs around the world in places such as Edmonton, Melbourne, London and Fresno. The people there are all linked to India and many of them are breadwinners for their families back in villages in Punjab," says Bhagwant Mann, AAP MP from Sangrur.

AAP supporters have started campaigning in the UK and Canada to garner support and raise funds; Mann hopes that around 50,000 volunteers from across the world will come to Punjab before the elections to boost the AAP campaign. "We are reaching out to a large number of people who migrated from the belt of Jalandhar,Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur and Phagwara and asking them to work with us when they come to Punjab for Christmas-New Year holidays. We don't want their dollars but we want their support."

Amarinder Singh-Prashant Kishor Show
The reported friction between Punjab Congress leader Amarinder Singh, aka Captain, and the party's election strategist Prashant Kishor wasn't quite on display as the party hit the road in Punjab.

"Our event, Coffee With Captain, had Singh interacting with college students in four urban areas: Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala and Mohali. That apart, IPAC has reached out to all colleges in Punjab and has mobilised youth to become part of Captain's campaign. These young volunteers are called College Captains.

We have 2,500 College Captains currently; that figure will multiply as our digital army, supporting our campaigns on ground and online," an IPAC member told ET Magazine on condition of anonymity. Then there are 113 more halkas (constituencies) to finish under Halke Vich Captain in the next five months along with 50 more Coffee with Captain events.

"One of IPAC's strengths is organising campaigns efficiently on a daily basis. The logistics range from finalising the venue to dealing with vendors, from designing the stage to branding the entire event with an eye for detail. IPAC has a special events team which works in tandem with the district IPAC team and the Congress party in setting up the whole event," the IPAC member added.

Along with IPAC, Amarinder Singh is also getting family support at the campaign back-end from his 27-yearold grandson Nirvan Singh who, besides driving the former CM's social media accounts, also drives the SUV in which he travels.
