2017 assembly polls: AAP to cut ticket aspirant No. down to 5 for each seat,Punjab Polls 2017 , Aam Aadmi Party, 117 constituencies
Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will soon have to take up the tricky task of zeroing down to five candidates in each of the 117 constituencies of Punjab for the 2017 assembly elections, even as the number of actual aspirants is believed to be much more.
There is already a feeling that the exercise would leave many hopefuls disappointed and possibly result in bad blood. An indication of this came to the fore at a meeting of party workers in Patiala on Sunday. The party leadership had to ask members not to go around projecting themselves as party candidates from their constituencies as this could invite action against them.
In a departure from its system for the last Lok Sabha elections when aspirants nominated themselves, it is the volunteers in each constituency who will meet and propose names to the screening committee that will, in turn, cut the candidates down to five for each assembly segment and forward it to the party leadership.
The party's in-charge for Punjab affairs, Sanjay Singh, said volunteers' meetings would begin shortly. "The proposed candidates would then be asked to submit their applications and these will be put through a screening process. The election campaign committee will send names of the proposed candidates to the screening committee, which will interview them. It will then send names of short-listed candidates to AAP's political affairs committee, which will decide on the final list."
