About the Constituency:
Out of the 28 Parliamentary constituencies allotted to the southern Indian state of Karnataka, one of the most significant ones is Hassan. The Hassan Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 16) consists of 1,417,213 number of electorates in totality, of these 717,405 are males and 699,808 are females as the Election commission of India 2009 data suggests. The total number of voters in the constituency, according to the estimates of the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, is around 10 lakh.

This parliamentary constituency covers more than one district, as the assembly segments are scattered over many regions. The number of Vidhan Sabha segments which comprise the Hassan Parliamentary constituency is eight, out of which, Sakleshpur is reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes. While the Kadur Assembly segment covers the district of Chikmagalur, the remaining Assembly segments are in the Hassan District.

This Parliamentary constituency covers the entire district of Hassan, while covering parts of the Chikmagalur District as well. The Hassan city is the administrative headquarters of the Hassan district. Though the region of this Lok Sabha constituency has a rich agricultural base that provides the district its economy, a heavy industrial setup is also flourishing in this region.
