About Dewas:
In the “Heart of India” lies the parliamentary constituency of Dewas, which is one of the 29 Lok Sabha seats of Madhya Pradesh. It came into existence in 2008, following the Delimitation Commission’s Order of delimitation of the parliamentary and legislative assembly constituencies.
As many as 1,296,627 voters reside in the Dewas parliamentary constituency. This constituency is not only historically significant, being a part of erstwhile Gwalior state, but holds archaeological importance too. Places of splendour are Cenotaphs of Kunwar Chain Singh, Hanuman Phatak, Jama Masjid, Saru-Maru caves, Ganesh Mandir, Pandu Kho and the Old Fort near the bank of the Chiler River, built during the Mughal period.
Assembly Segments:
This constituency came into existence by replacing the erstwhile Shajapur constituency, which ceased to exist after the delimitation of 2008. With eight assembly segments that comprise the Dewas Lok Sabha seat, this constituency spreads over the districts of Shajapur, Dewas and Sehore, partially covering each. Three assembly segments out of eight, namely Sonkatch, Ashta and Agar, are reserved for candidates from the marginalized sections of the society.
