About Patiala:
One of the 13 constituencies of Punjab, Patiala Parliamentary Constituency was formed before the 1951 elections and has nine Vidhan Sabha segments of which two are reserved for the SC category. The total number of electorates in the Patiala Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 13) according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports are 1,344,864 of which 705,182 are males and 639,682 are females.

About Patiala:
The second largest city of Punjab, it is the centre of administration of the Patiala District and is located about 70 kms from Chandigarh at a height of 350 metres. Patiala District spreads over an area of 4,628 sq kms..
As the provisional 2011 census data states, Patiala had a total population of over 4,05,000, 10% of which was under the age of five. 54% of the population comprises of males and the sex ratio of the city is 879 females for every 1,000 males. 56% of the total population is Sikh, followed by Hindus at 42% and the rest constitutes of Christians, Muslims, etc. The prevalent languages are Punjabi, Hindi and English. With an average literacy rate of 87%, the city has a male literacy rate of 90% and a female literacy rate of 83%. It is one of the primary education centres of the state and is home to the prestigious Yadavindra Public School which was established by the late King of Patiala. The National Highway NH-1 is connected to Patiala via the Punjab State Highway SH-8. NH-64 also passes through the city.
