Rail Budget outstanding, will put Railways back on track: BJP

Home Minister Rajnath Singh Tuesday hailed the first railway budget of the Narendra Modi government as "revolutionary" and "remarkable" that will put the Railways back on track with priorities on safety, hygiene and speed. Describing the Rail budget as "remarkable" in many ways, Singh said it is full of innovative ideas and Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda deserves credit for it. "I am confident that this Rail Budget will put the Indian Railways back on the fast track of development and expansion," he said. Party Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi described the Rail Budget as a "revolutionary bullet budget" and said "the journey of railways has begun on a world-class track".

Suspicious bags found outside BJP headquarters in Delhi, bomb squad called in

Ahead of the BJP Parliamentary Board meeting on Wednesday, there was a security scare at the party headquarters. Three unclaimed bags were found outside the BJP headquarters in Delhi, following which the bomb squad was called in. There were three red-colored bags that the bomb squad was checking. The woman who claimed to own the bags was at the spot.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to table Economic Survey today

Just a day to go for the Narendra Modi government's maiden union budget, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will table the Economic Survey 2013-2014 in Parliament on Wednesday. The Survey gives a broad idea on the macro economic data of the country which will impact Budget decisions. Sources say the Finance Ministry will lay emphasis on a roadmap for revival of the economy in the Budget. It is expected that the Finance Minister is going to talk about attracting foreign investments through FDI inflow and also talk about how caps for FDI across sectors could be increased. Retrospective tax is also something that has the investor community very jittery. While it would be too premature for the new government to repeal the retrospective tax on Thursday, sources indicate that the Finance Minister will send out a positive signal to the investor community on how they will not send out notices based on retrospective tax.

Narendra Modi key Aid Amit Shah promoted as BJP President

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s key aide Amit Shah was today named as the Bharatiya Janata Party President after the party's Parliamentary Board met to nominate him. Modi's most trusted lieutenant is now in-charge of the organization. Amit Shah started his political career with the youth wing of the BJP and came in touch with Modi when the latter was deputed in Ahmedabad by the RSS in 80s'. During Keshu Bhai Patel's regime, with Modi wielding great influence in the Gujarat BJP, Shah was nominated to contest Sarkhej by-election at a young age of 34. He won and when Modi became the chief minister of the state almost five years later, Shah was a minister holding as many as 12 portfolios. But trouble started for Amit Shah when he was named and arrested in the Sohrabuddin and Tulsiram Prajapati case. He got bail later, but was barred from entering Gujarat for almost two years. Finally, Shah got a reprieve just before the last assembly polls, when he was permitted to visit Gujrat and contest polls which he confortably won. But the real fillip to his career were the 2014 General Elections. Just before the elections, he was made in-charge of UP where turned the table of the Opposition to register an emphatic victory with the BJP winning 73 out of 80 seats in alliance with Apna Dal. That perhaps was the crucial factor which went in his favour when the BJP and RSS were zeroing in on the new party President to replace Rajnath Singh who has joined the government.
