BHOPAL: The Election Commission has served a notice on Yashodhara Raje Scindia, the BJP candidate from Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh, in what appears to be a case of paid news.

Notice was issued by returning officer (Shivpuri) D K Jain and she has been asked to submit her reply by Thursday, said sources. The district-level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) in Shivpuri has started investigating whether the publication of a news, which appeared in a local Hindi daily on Wednesday with her photograph, could fall under paid news.

Scindia has been fielded against Birendra Raghuvanshi from the Congress, a loyalist of her nephew and Union Minister of State for Power Jyotiraditya Scindia, who heads his party's campaign committee for the assembly poll. She has represented Shivpuri in the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha from 1998 to 2007.
