Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election ward reservation list 2017 announced, BMC ward list 2017, BMC voter list 2017, Maharashtra Municipal corporation voter list. Maharashtra civic polls new voter list
The BMC is gearing up for the ensuing 2017 elections.Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) yesterday declared wards that have been reserved for SC, ST, OBC and the open category. Wards were also divided for reservation for women and the general category (where anyone can contest irrespective of caste or gender). These results have come out as a shock or surprise for many councilors depending on what goes in their favour. The lottery was conducted under the vigilance of the State Election Commission (SEC).

However, the wards have been restructured as per the 2011 census and the orders of the SEC, keeping in mind an approximate population in one ward of up to 54,000 and the natural boundaries such rivers and nullahs or man made boundaries like highways, roads and railway tracks.
To fix the number of seats for each categories to be reserved, was calculated as below:
Number of seats = population of the category × 227/ total population of the city. After calculating, it was decided that out of the 227 number of seats meant for councilors in the coming 2017 elections, 15 seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC), (out of which eight are reserved for women), two seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) (one each for a man & a woman), 61 seats for Backward Castes Category (BCC) (out of which 31 are reserved for women) and the remaining, that is 159 are reserved for the open category (out of which 74 are reserved for women). This means that there are 114 seats reserved for women. In the remaining seats, both women and men can contest for the councilors seat.
Some surprised, some shocked
As the process of BMC lottery went ahead, jubilant party workers cheered for their leaders as their seats were reserved or unreserved, depending on what favoured their leaders. Some even expressed despair as their leaders lost seats to reservation. The newly formed wards made it difficult to guess the fate of current councillors. However, if rumours are to be believed some veteran councillors lost their seats to reservation under various categories. Some councillors might even switch parties to get benefits. The picture is clear now and political parties will get down to work. Some of established councillors who are likely to be affected the most are Sandeep Deshpande(MNS), Raees Shaikh (SP), Pravin Chedda (Cong), Dhananjay Pisaal (NCP), Yashodhar Phanse (Shiv Sena), Devendra Amberkar (Cong) and Abhishek Ghosalkar (Shiv Sena).
