Bar on pre-poll surveys, opinion, exit polls till today: SEC Karnataka, Karnatakazila taluk panchayat elections,Karnataka,Karnataka zila parishad polls
To prevent influencing voters, the State Election Commission has barred television channels and newspapers from telecasting and printing pre-poll survey, opinion polls and exit polls between 7 a.m. on Thursday and 5.30 p.m. on Saturday.
In a press release, the State Election Commission said that pre-poll survey, opinion polls and exit surveys would influence the electorate, who will cast their votes in the zilla and taluk panchayat elections on Saturday.
The commission has, therefore, barred media houses from disseminating in any manner the findings of pre-poll surveys, opinion polls and exit polls till 5.30 p.m. on Saturday.
The bar will apply to publication of these findings in magazines or in the form of posters, pamphlets, or hand bills. It will also apply to transmission of such information through SMS or on Whatsapp. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner A.B Ibrahim has taken note of the telecast of pre-poll surveys by a private news channel on Thursday morning.
“As it has a State-wide effect, I have brought this to the notice of Election Commission, which has to take action,” Mr. Ibrahim said.
