City Municipal Corporations of Tamil Nadu are the local governing bodies of the cities in Tamil Nadu. There are 12 such Municipal corporations in this Indian state.Dindigul and thanjavur recently given the status of corporation.

Tamil Nadu has a total of 5.80 crore voters, with 2.88 crore of them being men and 2.92 crore women and nearly three lakh electronic voting machines will be used. Corporation mayors, deputy mayors, chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of municipalities, town panchayats, district panchayats, panchayat unions, and vice-presidents of village panchayats are elected by councillors and ward members.

Councillors of Corporations, municipalities and town panchayats are elected directly by the people. Similarly, village panchayat presidents, ward members of village panchayats, district panchayats and panchayat unions are elected by people.

News: A Division Bench of the Madras High Court, hearing the appeal moved by the State Election Commission (SEC) assailing an order setting aside the local body election notifications, on Thursday said that the chain of election process has been already broken and that the SEC has also kept the process in abeyance and hence there is no other option except to issue fresh notifications.On October 4, 2016, a single judge of the High Court set aside the election notification issued by the SEC dated September 26, 2016, citing non-compliance of Tamil Nadu Panchayat (Elections) Rules, 1995.

 As a consequence, the elections scheduled on October 17 and 19 stand cancelled.
 

During the 2011 election, AIADMK won 33 seats and DMK and it alliance partners won the remaining.

3.. Coimbatore Municipal Corporation Election 2016-- The state Election Commission has decided to conduct the local body election for 100 wards of the city municipal corporation, Mettupalayam, Pollachi and Valparai municipalities, Anaimalai, Kottur, Udaiyakulam, Samathur, Sooleswaranpatti, Vettaikaranpudur, Jameenuthukuli town panchayats and Pollachi (North), Pollachi (South) and Anaimalai panchayat unions on October 17. The second phase of the election will be conducted for 30 town panchayats and nine panchayat unions on October 19.
