Chandigarh: Stay on the declaration of result of Ladwamunicipal committee president and vice-president polls will continue till July 18.
The matter is pending beforePunjab and Haryana high court to decide whether the members of the parliament and legislative assembly, hailing from a particular municipal area, are entitled to cast vote in the election for municipal committee or council.
On Tuesday, result of the election to the post of president and vice-president of the Ladwa municipal committee (MC) in Kurukshetra district was submitted before the high court in a sealed cover. The HC has fixed matter for July 18 to take a decision on the matter and till then there would be a stay on declaration of the result.
The matter is pending before the high court in the wake of a petition filed by Sumit Bansal, councillor from ward number 12, and Mandeep Singh, former president of Ladwa MC, whose wife Karamjeet Kaur and mother Sawinder Kaur are councillors from two wards.
The petitioners had sought directions to restrain the MP Saini and the MLA from casting votes to elect Ladwa MC president and vice-president on July 4.
Earlier on July 1, HC had permitted MLA and the MP to cast their votes but had made clear that the vote cast by them shall be kept in sealed envelope and produced before the court. It was also clarified by the HC that the result should not be declared till further orders.
