Cash Rich candidates throw hat into ring in Meghalaya

The 2013 Assembly elections in the Meghalaya is all setto become a fight for business men to get entry into the ‘august’ House asmore and more of theirtribe throwing their hatinto the ring.
Already, around ten of these wealthiest citizens of the State have declared their intention to contestthe upcoming elections all with one agenda - ‘to servethe people’.


Construction magnate from Jaintia Hills Ngaitlang Dhar is seeking Congress ticket to contestfrom Umroi constituencyin Ri-Bhoi district.
Mr Dhar whose brother Sniaw bhalang Dhar is thesitting Congress candidate from Nangbah-Wahiajer, has already made the ground work for the election.
He is pitted against sitting Umroi legislator Stanley Wiss Rymbai in the race for Congress ticket although, sources said,he would not back outeven if he loses the ticket.
Mr Dhar, who owns theDhar Brothers Constructions, is a well known contractor who has executed several major road projects in the state.


Another billionaire in the ring is Nehlang Lyngdoh who is seeking Congress ticket from Umsning constituency.Mr Lyngdoh presently is the Congress legislator from Rymbai constituency and is one of the richestcoal barons of Jaintia Hills district.
Another cash rich candidates in the race is Wallambok Mylliemngap who will contest from Jirang constituency. 
Mr My lliemngap whose business interests range from automobiles to foodgrains is the son of prominent businessman ModrickNongkynrih.


While he is trying hardfor Congress ticket, hemay not be sucessful inhis effort as Congress MPV incent Pala is reportedly backing another aspirant,Barnabas Nangbah.
In East Khasi Hills district too, a number ofwealthy candidates aretrying their luck for the upcoming Assembly polls.
Prominent among them is Mohindro Rapsang who is likely to get Congress ticket to contest from Shillong West constituency. 
Mr Rapsang is knownfor his big business empire ranging from real estate to foodgrains. Hismain contender for the polls is United Democratic Party (UDP) working president Paul Lyngdoh.


Another debutant in the battle of the rich is Banteidor Lyngdoh popularly known as Paidang.
This prominent construction contractor bothin the State and Central government departmentsis fighting for Congressticket to contest from Mawkynrew constituency.
Similarly, Leston Wanswett, a leading exporteris also in the race for Congress ticket from Shellaconstituency.
It is unclearif he will get the ticket.Another prominent exporter and coal baronKhraw Kupar Jyrwa willcontest the polls from Mawsynram constituencyon UDP ticket.


Mr Jyrwahas a big coal exporting business in Borsora areaof the state.
In West Khasi Hills too, the picture is no different.Kimfa Marbaniang, arich business man whose family owns the Hyndaicar dealership in Meghalaya will contest from Rambrai-Jyrngam constituency.
