Civic Poll 2015: Sena, BJP set to declare candidates

AURANGABAD: With the cloud of uncertainty looming large over pre-poll alliances between Shiv Sena and BJP, both the parties are set to declare their first lists of candidates by Sunday evening.

Shirish Boralkar, the BJP spokesperson for Maharashtra, told TOI that the party would declare its list of select candidates in the first phase, while Shiv Sena's in-charge of civic polls in Aurangabad Pradeep Jaiswal said they would announce a list of 25 to 30 candidates.

"Although we are still negotiating with BJP leaders and trying to strike an alliance with it, we are prepared to declare our first list," he said.

The BJP is also likely to declare its list of about 25 candidates for the constituencies that are either with it or where the party has a strong base. Of the total 113 seats in the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Sena and BJP leaders have no disputes over 95 per cent of the seats.

Sources said while conducting interviews of the aspirants, both the parties have told their candidates that they (candidates) would have to leave the seat it the BJP and the Shiv Sena joined hands. Political observers believe that both the parties would declare their respective candidates' lists as a pressure tactics. "As there are only two days left for filing nominations, both the parties will start mounting pressure on each other," an observer said.

Boralkar said the picture over the alliance would be clear within a day or two. "The party's state president, Raosaheb Danve, is negotiating with senior leaders of Sena in Mumbai. But if the talks fail, the party will go alone. BJP is prepared for such eventualities," he said.

Sources in the Congress said the party would contest all the 113 seats on its own.
