BJP's first candidate list is likely to come at the end of the month

The BJP is most likely to declare the first list of its candidates after October 25. Sources said the saffron party has made up its mind to field young faces from several assembly seats in the state.

A senior BJP state functionary states that “Winnability is the criteria. The party has selected some names, who emerged victorious in previous five assembly elections with a big margin. These names are likely to be declared by the month-end. After feedback on some seats, the party has plans to field young faces in some constituencies”.

On Thursday, a meeting of senior party leaders chaired by State Election Management Committee convener Narendra Singh Tomar discussed issues related to election guidelines during the festivals and Congress allegations against party leaders. The saffron party has also demanded permission for leaders to participate in public programs during the Navratri festival.

State Revenue Minister Umashankar Gupta said “We have submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission of India (ECI) to grant permission to BJP leaders to attend Navratri programmes. As of now, the EC has restricted leaders from attending public functions citing the model code of conduct”.

The leaders argue prominent citizens and social representatives are invited during social harmony programmes in the wake of Navratri and Dussehra festivals. This is not a publicity stunt or any poll campaign. The party has urged the EC to grant permission to leaders to attend public festivals.

BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma said “Indian festivals are meant for encouraging social harmony and uniting all sections of the society. There is no political motive or ambition behind it. The parties are likely to declare names of candidates later. Hence, there is no political campaign during the festivity”.
