Elections in the frontier state is largely a triangular battle among the newly formed alliance of BJP-AGP-BPF, the incumbent Congress and the pro-Muslim AIUDF. In the previous elections, Congress secured a comfortable victory, bagging 78 seats in the 126-member assembly. AIUDF performed in a striking manner, winning 18 seats despite its limited voter reach. BJP, which is now expected to emerge as the single largest party, was a non-existential player in the previous polls.
