Gujarat Gram Panchayat Election 2018 Feb   

Voting for around 1,145 village panchayats was held peacefully across Gujarat on Sunday, with results scheduled to be announced on Tuesday, officials said.

1. Around 73 per cent voters cast their votes across 33 districts till 4 pm, and the final figure was likely to go up, an official of the State Election Commission said.
2. A total of over 22.5 lakh voters were eligible to vote, he added.
3. As many as 218 village Panchayats were declared “Samaras” after the villages chose their sarpanch and ward members through consensus, the official informed.
4. Voting in one booth at a village in Chhota Udepur district was suspended after the candidates complained that their election symbols were missing from the EVM.' The SEC official said that re-polling would be held tomorrow at this booth.
5. Elections for sarpanch and ward members are not held on the symbols of political parties but candidates are generally backed by these parties.

Gujarat Gram Panchayat Election Dates Details 2017

1. The Panchayat polls are not fought on the political party symbols and each voter casts two votes, one to elect the Sarpanch while the other to elect the Panchayat members. In the polling held on April 8, polling was suspended at a village in Visavadar tehsil of Junagadh district after the death of a candidate contesting for the post of the sarpanch.
2. Reports of violence emerged in Borisana village of Mehsana district after some people allegedly tried to stop a man from escorting his mother to the polling stations. Apart from this, clashes between two groups in Kadi left four injured. The Kadi police have filed FIRs against both the group but no arrests have been made so far.
3. The results of Gujarat Gram Panchayat elections will be released by State Election Commission (SEC). The list of winners, along with voting percentage would be be declared by SEC after receving the adequate information from District Collectors. 4. Results of the 1828 Gram Panchayats of Gujarat that went to polls on April 8 will be declared today. The Gram Panchayat elections of Saturday witnessed a total voter turnover of more than 70 per cent and around 1,557 villages voted for 1828 Sarpanchs and around 16,082 Panchayat members.
5. The Gram Panchayat elections of April 8 is the second phase of the Gram Panchayat elections held in Gujarat. The first phase of Gram Panchayat elections held in December last year was contested for around 10,3000 Sarpanchs and Panchayat members.
