GUWAHATI, Jan 19: Krishak Sramik Unnayan Parishad, Assam (KSUPA) is going to filed independent candidates in 93 Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) in the forthcoming Assembly elections in the State, and it has already named 50 candidates, 35 from Upper Assam and 15 from Lower Assam.
Talking to newsmen in the city today, KSUPA president Pradip Kalita said: “From November 5 to December 7, 2015, we did take out a bicycle rally in as many as 93 LACs in the State, seeking nine demands.
Our experience during that rally is shocking. Around 90 per cent of funds meant for various schemes and projects in the State were gobbled up, and only work of 10 per cent of the funds was done. Over 3,000 foundation stones were laid during the past 15 years, but most of them have been left undone.
They fail to see the light of the day. The claim of development which Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi makes every now and then is a blatant lie.”
Kalita further said: “As though in a competition with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also been deceiving Assam. He failed to materialize the promises made before the last Lok Sabha elections in the State. He didn’t come to Assam to visit the devastating floods in Goalpara last year. That he has come to Kokrajhar and Guwahati today is for nothing but the Assembly elections in the State.” Coming down heavily on the AGP, Kalita said: “This party has no rigid stand. If it holds parleys with the Congress today, it will hold such parleys with the BJP tomorrow. It has no stands of its own.”
Kalita said that by taking all such issues into consideration, the KSUPA is going to field as many as 93 independent candidates in the next Assembly elections in the State. “We’ve already named as many as 50 candidates, 35 from Upper Assam and 15 from Lower Assam. The rest candidates will be named soon.”
