Is Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar trying to mediate a repeat of a Bihar-type of 'Grand Alliance' in Assam, a state where elections would be held in the next four months?
Last night, Nitish Kumar had a meeting with former Assam Chief Minister and Asom Gana Parishad leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta in Delhi's Bihar Bhavan.
Mr Mahanta told NDTV that the meeting was a "courtesy call as Nitish Kumar was his good friend".
But the timing of the meeting is significant as various non-BJP parties have been in talks to repeat of the Bihar experiment in Assam to "stop the BJP".
Political strategist Prashant Kishor - who headed Nitish's campaign team after successfully managing Prime Minister Modi's Lok Sabha campaign - too was a part of the meeting that has been described as "personal meeting" by Mr Mahanta.
Earlier, it was reported that Mr Kumar is trying to bring local leader Badruddin Ajmal - who heads All India United Democratic Front or AIUDF with a significant support among Bengali speaking Muslims - on a common platform with other non-BJP parties.
Among the states that go to polls in the next round of elections, Assam is one state where the BJP is looking to end a 15-year-old Congress rule in the state.
The party won half of the 14 Lok Sabha seats and managed to secure nearly 40 per cent of the votes polled, highest for any political party.
But many believe BJP's Lok Sabha performance was because of a split in the non-BJP votes.
In the crucial Bihar elections earlier this year, the Nitish Kumar-led 'Grand Alliance' coalition of the Janata Dal (United), Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Congress had defeated the BJP, winning a huge a majority.
