UK general Election 2015: Conservatives and Labour even at 35% in latest opinion poll

uk election 2015 opinion pollLabour and the Conservatives have squeezed support for the smaller parties as the general election approaches and are now level-pegging on 35%, according to polling.

Declining support for Ukip and the Green Party has led to the highest combined vote share for the two major parities since September 2013, the ComRes study for the Daily Mail and ITV News found.

Labour has increased its support by three points since the organisations’s last telephone poll in February and the Tories have gone up by one point to reach their highest level of support since November 2012.

Nigel Farage’s party is down three points to 10%, its lowest ComRes phone poll rating since December 2013 and a marked drop from its peak of 19% last October.

The Liberal Democrats remain on 8% while the Green Party has dropped one point to 7%.

But half of those who have picked a party say they may still change their mind before they head to the ballot box on May 7, the poll found.

Nearly half, 49%, believe David Cameron is better for the job of Prime Minister than Ed Miliband, while 33% backed the Labour leader.

An overwhelming majority, 77%, said which party leader would be best in No 10 was important in their decision over which party to support.

Some 54% said televised debates were not important when making their choice compared to 45% who said the broadcasts would play an important role.
